Daniela & Ben are planning a classy downtown wedding this Summer at the Botanic Gardens and the Grant-Humphreys Mansion in Denver. We decided to opt for a mountain setting for their engagement portraits to contrast their city wedding setting.

They trusted me completely and let me choose a new mountain location for their portraits. So I met them at an open space right outside of Vail and the July wild flowers were stunning in the greenery of the location.

Vail Engagement Photography Tip

That’s actually a less known fact that mountain areas, especially along i70 like Vail and Breckenridge, don’t actually green up until June and sometimes the snow doesn’t melt until July. Front range locations like Boulder will have some mountain wild flowers in May, but deeper into the mountains wild flowers tend to appear in July. So for Vail engagement photography the best Summer-feeling months are late June through September or early October. Now Vail and these areas are gorgeous in the Winter too, just be prepared for a lot of snow.

So back to the session. They had a vision for ethereal and editorial engagement and wedding photos. Daniela and Ben chose neutral colors for their outfits. I also love how the white symbolizes a wedding dress. Overall we had a very romantic, soft editorial feel for their engagement portraits. The white attire in a rich green setting helped them stand out from the background. Also white fit very well with a Summer romantic style we were going for with their portraits.
