Here is Kim & Taylor’s story in their own words-
“Taylor and I met through friends of friends through church. He led a small group that a friend of mine attended (I worked during the time they met so was unable to go) and I kid you not after she went the first time she said “Kim, I met your husband” I asked her if I could meet him first before deciding on that! But, turns out she was right! The first actual time we met was at a Super Bowl party that Taylor hosted at his house. We didn’t become friends for several months after that but then we were friends for several months before we officially started dating. Our first “official” date was to the Santa Barbara Zoo and was supposed to be a surprise as to where we were going… but I guessed the location and he was pretty sad that I figured it out (whoops!) Taylor has been learning how to surprise me ever since”
“I’ve always enjoyed Taylor’s humor and as we’ve dated he’s gotten more comfortable showing me his goofy nature (in his words “I’m hilarious”) But I also love that I can by goofy with him and that we can laugh together and just enjoy life. I think we both knew pretty early on that we were ready to pursue marriage to one another but I don’t think I had a specific moment where I thought “he’s the one”. Because we were friends for several months before dating, transition into dating one another felt so easy and right. I already knew his character and his personality by the time that we started dating that I wouldn’t have started dating him if I hadn’t felt like he was someone that I wanted to marry. Of course those feelings only got stronger once we actually started dating and spending more time together.”
The proposal – Kimberley is very difficult to surprise. In order to make my masterful plan work without issue, I learned very early on that in order to surprise Kimberley successfully, one has to hide a surprise within a surprise. My opportunity came in January of this year when I used a surprise trip to Catalina Island as the backdrop for what would be my perfect proposal. Kimberley assisted me in choosing her ring and she knew the day was quickly approaching but she didn’t know when exactly. When we finally arrived in Avalon, the first thing we did was rent bikes to tour the island. When we finally arrived at the location I had determined would be the spot for our proposal, I was dismayed to see the excessively crowded presence of foreign tourists cramping what was supposed to be MY MOMENT. After much waiting and confusion from my soon to be finance, the tourists left and I finally had my time. Ultimately, both the view and moment ended up being perfect and her answer even more so.
Aren’t they adorable?! Kim reached out to me to talk wedding photography and plans near the beginning of the covid shutdown. They were planning an early October wedding at one of my favorite venues in Estes- the Black Canyon Inn. Wow did the timing work out perfectly, not only did we have peak Fall colors in the aspens, they were just days before the wildfires took a turn and weeks before Estes Park was evacuated altogether. I am SO glad everything worked out the way it did and that I got to capture their amazing wedding day! Get ready for a photo recap of one of my favorite Colorado Fall wedding days-
